Shark Steam Pocket Mop

How Does it Compare to the Original Shark and Other Steam Mops?

One of the most recent additions to the steam mop scene, the  Shark Steam Pocket Mop is a new gem from the people at Shark who can be credited for helping make steam mops so popular with their infomericals. The original Shark Steam Mop has been met with mixed reviews over the years so how does this “new and improved” deluxe version measure up? Let’s take a look!

Features of the Shark Steam Pocket Mop

First, let’s discuss some of the features that the Shark Steam Pocket Mop has to offer and then measure the pros and cons of it. Besides being lightweight and ready to go to work on your floor in just 30 seconds, this new Shark has several features that are an improvement over the old Shark. This is a good thing because many of these features are the ones that were commonly complained about by consumers when they reviewed the original Shark steam mop. So here’s a low down of how the Shark Steam Pocket Mop is better:

  • Longer cord. In fact, at 30 feet long it has the longest cord of any steam mop currently on the market!
  • Larger water tank. At 15 ounces, you should be able to mop without having to stop and refill unless of course you have an unusually large area to cover.
  • Pivoting head. Makes it easier to manuever the mop and get hard to reach areas.
  • Extra mop head attachments including a steam duster and carpet glider attachment for deodorizing rugs and carpets.

Pros of the Shark Steam Pocket Mop

  • Longer cord than most steam mops
  • Big water tank
  • Comes with dusting mop head pad
  • Comes with different shape mop heads
  • Adjustable handle
  • Swivel head
  • Carpet attachment for deodorizing carpets and rugs

Cons of the Shark Steam Pocket Mop

No steam mop is created perfectly, so here's some of the cons I've seen mentioned about this steam mop:

Costs more than several other best selling steam mops -  In fact as I write this, it is currently selling for $40 more than the Eureka Enviro Steamer and $20 more than the Bissell Steam Mop at Amazon.

Several complaints about Shark Products not lasting long - I came across several reviews for the Shark Steam Pocket Mop where the reviewers mentioned that they had bad luck with Shark products, including the Shark Steam Pocket Mop, not lasting long.  Many mentioned their products died in under a year's time.  I also saw several people mention their displeasure with the customer service they received from Shark.  Just something to keep in mind.

So not a ton of cons but a few to consider.  The bottom line is that most of the reviews I read for the Shark Steam Pocket Mop where quite glowing.  It is definitely up there with the best of the steam mops.  It has a lot to offer but if the price is a sticking point, I recommend you consider the equally raved about Eureka Enviro Steamer which costs about 40% less than the Shark Steam Pocket Mop.
